We all get cards each year - Christmas cards, birthday cards, anniversary cards, the list could go on and on. A great project to do especially with children is to recycle these cards. Here are a few ideas you can take old cards and make them into a new item.
Book Marks- Large cards can be turned into excellent bookmarkers. Cut the cards into strips of 6 - 7 inches long by approximately 2 inches wide. Trying cutting the card where there is a picture or a scene. Punched a hole at the top of the strip and tied ribbon and/or string to the top and you end up with a great book mark. Gift Tags -Cut some of the cards in circles, and in squares, and with scalloped edges. Then on the back of the card, using a marker to write: "To:", and, "From:" and you end up with a gift card that is useful and inexpensive to make. Magnets - Smaller children love to make magnets. Help them find a picture they like on one of your old cards. Cut it out and glue a magnet on the back. Each time the child sees his magnet on the fridge it makes them feel proud that they made it! Ornaments you can cut out a picture or a scene and glue it on cardboard or on a piece of material. Punch or cut a hole at the top of the card, and using a piece of rope or ribbon create a hanger for the ornament. If using cardboard on the back the child can sign their name and the date they made the ornament. Recipe Cards - many times cards are blank on the other side. By cutting the cards 5 inches by 3 inches you have an instant recipe card. You can get the kids to write their favourite recipe on the back - Make New Cards -of course this is a child's favourite. Making a card for their mum or dad. Using old cards to cut from you will be amazed a the masterpieces that children can create. Making any one of these projects with a child creates a useful item, but more importantly creates memories that your children will remember for years to come.
