The size of your garden depends on how big your property is, or
how much is covered in woodlands, or is too rocky too easily plant.
In addition, it also depends on your intentions. Do you plan to plant just
enough vegetables for your summer eating, or, do you want to can,
preserve, freeze or store vegetables for use over the winter; or,
do you plan to start your own market garden?
Planting for your own use does not require as much space as you
would need, obviously, if you were starting a
market garden venture. But, on the other hand, you
need less space than you think.
Enjoy lots of garden vegetables in a small area by growing most
vegetables tied to stakes of poles. Pole gardening allows for good
air circulation and helps prevent rot by keeping vegetables off the ground.
Make use of small spaces effectively. Good mulching, fertilizers,
well-balanced soil can give you good yields. Have all the advantages
of fresh garden produce without all the work of tending to a large garden plot.
