Healthy Hermits
1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour or whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp allspice
1/4 cup low fat sour cream
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 cup raisins
Method:
Sift together flour, soda and spices
Cream together margarine and sugar. Stir in the egg and cream
(to sour milk, add 1/2 tsp lemon juice or vinegar to milk)
Let stand 10 min and then stir
Add dry ingredients to this mixture. Add nuts and raisins. Mixture is very
thick, use wooden spoon.
Bake at 350F, 10 - 12 min
Add ice and gently stir in ginger ale.
Makes about 16 - 4 oz servings

Hermits' Drop Cookies
3/4 cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp milk
1 cup walnut, chopped
1 cup dates, chopped
1 cup raisins
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
Method:
Cream butter, add sugar and eggs together.
Add vanilla and milk
Add sifted dry ingredients. Mix well dough is thick.
Add nuts, raisins and dates. Mix well
Drop by rounded teaspoons on greased cookie sheets
Bake 350F, 15-18 min or until tops spring back when lightly touched.
(If using Teflon sheet, lower heat by 25 degrees)
